Skyline School Board Meets Thursday, Dec. 19

The Skyline R-II Board met in regular session on Thursday, Dec. 19, with all seven members present.
Before the meeting, board members enjoyed watching the annual Christmas Music Program put on by the Skyline students and took part in the YEP pie auction fundraiser. The consent agenda items consisting of board minutes, bills and financial statement were presented and approved.
In new business:   Skyline School has received two grants this year from health foundations to try to help fight childhood obesity. Superintendent Jeanne Curtis explained how some of the funds were being used and the different types of programs that are going to be offered.  The board approved hiring a health clerk for the spring semester through one of the grant funds.
In the Superintendent’s Report:  Enrollment for November was 88 students in K-8th grade with 12 preschool students.  School board candidate filing runs Dec.17 – Jan. 21.  Skyline will have three positions to fill.
Winter weather has hit already before the Christmas break.  School was closed seven days during this first storm.  Make-up days were already built into the calendar to cover these days.  Skyline returned to school on Monday the 16th by driving snow routes for most of the week.
Students at Skyline will have two weeks off for Christmas Break – Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.  Classes will resume Jan. 6, 2014.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16,  at 7 p.m.
The Skyline School Board and staff would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
