Ava Middle School Bears Return To Basketball Action

The Middle School Bears made their return to game action on Thursday, Dec. 12 . Games with Cabool and Reeds Spring had been postponed earlier in the week due to inclement weather.

The Bears hosted Mountain Grove and dropped both games to the visiting Panthers.

Mountain Grove won the seventh grade game 38-26.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead, leading 14-9 after one quarter of play and led 18-15 at halftime. Mountain Grove claimed the lead in the second half and led 25-20 after three quarters of play.

The Bears kept the game close until the final minutes but were unable to catch the Panthers.

Caleb Johnson led Ava’s scoring with 12 points, followed by Griffin Taylor with 6 points. The rest of the scoring included:  Stephen Copeland 4, Drake King 2, and Dustin Kilgore 2.

The Panthers defeated the Bears 50-27 in the eighth grade contest. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and led 30-14 at halftime.

Wyatt Gastineau led Ava’s scoring with 10 points. The remainder of the scoring for the Bears included:  Quincey McDonald 5, Bailey Bewley 5, Takoma Dobbs 4, Joey Swofford 1, Michael Lane 1, and Weston Stillings 1.

The Bears hosted the Bears from Willow Springs on Monday, Dec. 16 . Ava won the seventh grade game 49-33. Ava led 14-8 after one quarter of play and led 28-16 at halftime.

Caleb Johnson’s 16 points and Stephen Copeland’s 14 points led the scoring for Ava. Drake King also scored in double digits with 11 points. Griffin Taylor scored 4 points; Gavin Goss and Dustin Kilgore chipped in 2 points each to round out the scoring for Ava.

Willow Springs won the eighth grade contest 47-18. The visiting Willow Springs squad led 32-16 at halftime. Takoma Dobbs led Ava’s scoring with 9 points. Joey Swofford, Michael Lane, Quincey McDonald and Weston Stillings scored 2 points each. Connor Moran added 1 point to complete the scoring for Ava.
