“Candy Canes & Christmas Carols” Is Theme of 2013 Christmas Parade

Judy Shields, executive director of the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce, gave an overview of the 2013 Ava Christmas Parade at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting on Tuesday.
The parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, and the theme of this year’s parade is “Candy Canes & Christmas Carols.”
Decorated floats will be competing for cash prizes, starting with a $500 grand prize.
There will also be classes of judging for horses, golf carts and 4-wheelers, bicycles, pets, and cars, trucks, tractors, etc. Walking entries are also welcome.
You do not have to compete for prizes to participate in the parade. Just stop by the Chamber office and fill out an entry form. There is no charge for participation.
Again this year the parade will be preceded by the Friday Night Frolic on the Ava square.
Kids can stop by and visit with Santa Claus and listen to stories by Mrs. Claus.
There will also be Christmas crafts, the Ava High School Jazz Band will play seasonal music, and Little Miss and Master Merry Christmas will be crowned.
Also being held in conjunction with the Christmas Parade is the storefront decorating and home lighting contests.
Again, stop by the Chamber office and get signed up. The decorating and lighting entries will be judged on Dec. 14 following the Christmas parade.
The Friday Night Frolic begins at 5:30. The Ava Christmas Parade will step off at 1 p.m.
