Veterans Day Tradition Will See Slight Change; Flags Still Available

A long-standing tradition is saying good-bye and hello to anew and more colorful event.
Traditionally, the American Legion Post 112 has placed flags on all the veterans’ graves located in the Ava Cemetery on Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Beginning this Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) the Legion will decorate the front perimeter of the cemetery with a flag display that will be more visible and hopefully raise more attention to remind our community to honor our veterans. Legion members hope this change will provide a positive reminder to honor those who served and sacrificed for our country’s freedom.
In making this change, the American Legion realizes some family members will want to continue having the little flags placed on their loved ones’ resting place. The Legion will gladly furnish the flags for this purpose. Please call Commander Daniel H. Letsinger at 417-683-3415 and he will see that a flag is provided.
In the meantime, the American Legion invites everyone to attend the ceremony on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., in the Ava Cemetery, to honor the brave men and women who have been laid there.
This year’s Veterans Day speaker will be the Rev. Oren Alcorn, pastor of Ava General Baptist Church.
