James Elmer Roy, 83

James Elmer Roy was born July 24, 1930 in Ava, Mo., to Lizetta and Lawrence M. Roy. He passed away Sept. 15, 2013 at the age of 83 years.
He was married to Clara (Williams) Roy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Roy; granddaughter, Alana Jo Roy; both parents; and two brothers, Darrell Roy and Mike Roy.
He is survived by his three sons, Herbert Roy and wife, Judy, of Del City, Okla., Travis Roy and his wife, Sandy, of Elgin, Okla., and Edward Roy and his wife, Regina, of Mtn. Grove, Mo.; six grandchildren, Damon Roy and his wife, Staci, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Stephanie Hughes and her husband, Brent, of Johnson, Ark., Amber Roy, of Austin, Texas, Travis J. Roy, of Muskogee, Okla., Jason Roy and his wife, Jacklyn, of Rogersville, Mo., and Bethany Collins her husband, Winston, of Dora, Mo.; two brothers, Harold Roy and Jerry Roy, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Beulah Peterson, of Wolf Point Mont., Viv Gerke, of Columbus, Mont., and Sue Ady and her husband, John, of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughter, Kelly Baringer; and a step-grandaughter, Crystal Cheney.
His family was his number one interest, and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening.
He was a retired US Army artillery officer and was also retired from American General Life Insurance Company. During his military career he served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany (two tours) and Alaska.
He never missed a family function such as birthdays, graduations, weddings, and reunions. His heart remained in southern Missouri.
He was an avid quail hunter to the extent of promising a judge to go hunting for jury duty exemption (it worked).
Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Fort Sill, Okla., under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service, Lawton, Okla.
