Ray C. Lee, 78

Ray Conway Lee, son of Ray Taylor and Edith Susette Newberry Lee, was born Oct. 18, 1934 in Turner, Mo.  He departed this life Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, in the Heart of the Ozarks Care Center, Ava, Mo., at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 30 days.
On June 26, 1957, Ray was united in marriage to Leah Mae VanNess and to this union two daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Junior Lee, who passed in infancy, and Roy Lee.
Ray is survived by his wife, Leah, of the home; daughters, Wanda Whitaker and husband Rick, of Ava, Mo., and Raydena Hoppee and husband, Lee, of Columbia, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jamie Whitaker and wife, Shawna, Cody Whitaker and wife, Lindy, Nathan Smith, and Kendra Smith; four great-grandchildren, Hunter L., Grayson, Jaylyn, and Hunter D.; brothers, Kenneth Lee and wife, Bonnie, of Seymour, Mo., Charles Lee and wife, Jan, of Battlefield, Mo., Lloyd Lee and wife, Barbara, of Everton, Mo., Harold Lee, of Ava, Mo.; sister Edith Leach and husband, Bruce, of Berne, Ind.; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Ray spent his younger years in the Dogwood, Mo., area. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 until being honorably discharged in 1959. Ray returned home and spent the rest of his life living in the Ava area.
He worked for Rawlings Sporting Goods in Ava and retired from there after many years of service.
He had accepted Christ as his Savior and was of the Pentecostal Faith.
Ray enjoyed working in his flower garden and was especially fond of his irises.  He raised show chickens for many years and won several awards throughout the years.
Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend.  We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour.  Burial with full military honors was in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
