Dorothy Loretta Burk, 87

Dorothy Loretta Burk was born Nov. 6, 1925 in Ava, Mo., and peacefully passed from this life on March 13, 2013.
She was the only daughter of Floyd and Ola Staley. On July 31, 1954 she married Fred Arlee Burk and to this union two daughters were born.
Growing up on a farm outside Ava, Mo., many photographs reflect Dorothy’s love of animals. She raised collies and enjoyed horseback riding.
Dorothy worked as a beautician prior to becoming a fulltime wife and mother. She loved her family, friends and church.
She was a member of the First General Baptist Church of Springfield where she faithfully served her Lord and others.  Dorothy worked with children, sang with the choir, and ministered to others – always prepared to make a pie or special dish.
Dorothy truly made her house a home; sewing, cooking, decorating, gardening, and creating. She would research and find a way to do almost anything that needed to be done.
Dorothy shared her love of music with her daughters. She spent countless hours waiting patiently while lessons were given.
She is survived by her daughters, Betsy Earls and husband, Doug, and Tina Sibley and husband, Nick. She loved and nurtured her granddaughter, Anna and grandson, Captain.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Visitation was held Saturday, March 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Graveside services were held Monday, March 18, at 9 a.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First General Baptist Church, 1400 W. Walnut St. Springfield, Missouri 65806.
