The Douglas County Historical Society held its meeting on Jan. 21.
Sharon Sanders called the meeting to order. Pat Carmichael read the treasurer’s report. It was accepted as read. The officers and board members that were present accepted a donation from Post 5993 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Journal stories submitted so far are on the Corey Family Leather Shop, Jackson Roy Hylton Family, and Land Congress.
Historical Society members are looking for family pictures around 1910 of three families: M.L. Andrews, Jno. W. Byng and H.C. Stanfield. If anyone has any please let them know. They would like to have them for next Journal.
Marilyn suggested we donate a copy of the picture of Land Congress Wagon with big log on it to the U.S. Forest Service. Also, Sharon is going to check with the natural gas company about costs.
There has been a request for stories on the different volunteer fire departments in the county for future Journals. Anyone who would like to help with this project or know who to contact let them know.
Ava Rural Fire Dept. formed in 1973-74, Ava City possibly in 1924. Another possible story for future Journals: 100-year anniversary of Mt. Zion.
