Ava JV Boys Win Conway Tournament Championship
The Ava Junior Varsity Bears won three games in the JV side of the Conway Tournament last week, claiming the tournament championship on Saturday.
En route to the championship, the Bears beat Fordland and Buffalo, then downed the host Conway Bears on Saturday.
Ava 46, Fordland 36
Ava played their first game of the Conway tournament on Monday, Jan. 21. Ava won 46 to 36 over Fordland. The scoring wasled by Colton Akers 12, Chase Gastineau 11, Jesse Dean 10, Cody Huff 7, and Seth Dobbs 6.
Ava 32, Buffalo 8
Ava played Buffalo on Jan. 24 in the second game of the tournament and defeated them 32-8. Scoring for Ava: Huff 12, Chase Gastineau 10, Dobbs 4, Dean 2, Akers 2, and Zach Hunsaker 2.
Ava 55, Conway 51
Ava faced the home team Conway on Saturday in the championship game and came out victorious with a 55-51 win. The scoring was led by Chase Gastineau with 18 points, followed by Dean 17, Akers 9, Huff 6, and Dobbs 4.
“The JV played very well in this tournament and improved their record to 12-3 with the championship win”, said Coach Justin Gilmore.
Gilmore said the team’s strong man-to-man defense was the key to success. “We got up and guarded teams in the full-court and wore teams down. We have several players that can score in double figures on any given night, which makes our team very difficult to guard,” the coach added.
