Lady Bears Claim Wins Over Conway, Hollister; Advance to Semifinals In Reeds Spring Tourney

The Ava Lady Bears picked up two big wins during the past week, including a first-round victory in the Reeds Spring Tournament on Monday night.
Last Thursday night, at home, the Lady Bears got past Conway, 52-44, behind a balanced scoring attack that saw four Ava girls in double figures.
Bailey Lee led the scoring with a dozen points, and Hannah Johnson, Erica Croney and Maison Bovard added 11 apiece. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bears were Callie Eubanks 5, and MaKenna Hunsaker 2.
Long had 15 points for Conway and was the only player in double figures for them.
On Monday night the Ava girls had no problem with Hollister, winning 48-27.
Ava is seeded fourth and Hollister No. 5 in the tournament.
The Lady Bears will face top seed West Plains in the semifinals tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m. Finals will be played on Friday night with the consolation championship at 5 o’clock, the third place game at 6:30 and the championship at 8 p.m.
Bovard led the Ava women Monday with 18 points as nine different girls contributed to the tally. Lee had 9 points, Jacey Swofford had 8, Shelby Campbell 5, and Christina Shortt, Rachel Swofford, Hunsaker, Eubanks and Croney with 2 points apiece.
Welch led Hollister with 9 points.
Next week the Lady Bears will resume their conference schedule with a trip to Mtn. View-Liberty on Monday night. On Tuesday the Ava ladies will travel to Forsyth for a non-conference bout.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, the Lady Bears will travel to Mtn. Grove for SCA action.
The girls will play their final home game of the season on Monday, Feb. 4 vs. Norwood. That will be Senior Night, with senior players recognized before the game.
