Robert “Bob” Charles Smith, 53

Robert Charles Smith, 53 years, passed to Heaven on Oct. 9, 2012 at his home.

Bob was born Jan. 30, 1959 in Hancock, N.Y., to Carl and Verna (Ferguson) Smith.

Bob was a resident of the Ava community since 1997, moving from Canton, Texas. He worked in construction for the MICA Corporation for 10 years before relocating to Douglas County, Mo. He had also worked in commercial building as a concrete finisher.

On Jan. 4, 1982, Bob and Gina Mae Herd were united in marriage in Knoxville, Tenn.  Bob was a Christian and attended the Bradleyville General Baptist Church. He served as Building Trustee for the church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and playing drums for the joy of the Lord.

Some of Bob’s hobbies were mushroom hunting with Ronnie Walden and bowhunting. He always looked forward to camping with his best friends, Ron Hunsaker and Lonnie Brown. He also enjoyed his yearly visits to the Gulf Coast with his wife to see the ocean.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Carl J. Smith, father-in-law, Billy Herd, and sisters-in-law, Kimberly Bird and Teresa Smith.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gina Smith, of the home; his mother, Verna F. Smith, Afton, N.Y.; two brothers, Carl V. Smith and Tom Smith; one sister, Cathy Stephens; his constant companion, Pippin; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Bob will be Thursday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo., with burial in the Patterson Cemetery at Bradleyville. Visitation was Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating is Pastor Jack Clemans and Ron Hunsaker. Memorials may be made to Patterson Cemetery.
