Ava Man Dies in Roll-Over Crash Sunday Morning

The driver of this GMC pickup, Coleman Miles, 24, of Ava, died when the vehicle ran off the road and overturned west of Ava early Sunday morning.

An Ava man died in an early morning crash Sunday when the pickup he was driving overturned, partially ejecting the driver.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Coleman W. Miles, 24, was driving a 1990 GMC Sierra on County Road 404, five miles west of Ava when the 1:10 a.m. accident occurred.

Tpr. Justin Piccinino reported that the pickup ran off the roadway, hit a culvert and overturned. Miles was not wearing a seatbelt, the Highway Patrol reported.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Douglas County Coroner Rick Miller.

Tpr. Piccinino was assisted by Tpr. Daniel Johnson, along with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, Ava Rural, City of Ava and Goodhope fire departments.

It doesn’t look that steep in this picture, but emergency personnel with Cox Ambulance and Ava Rural Fire Dept. had to use ropes to get the driver of this car, Beverly Adams, to the road where she could be loaded into the ambulance last Friday morning.

Beverly A. Adams, 74, of Ava, was taken by Cox Ambulance to Cox South Hospital last Friday morning with moderate injuries following a one-vehicle mishap on Route K, seven miles northwest of Ava.

After running off the right side of the road and down a steep embankment, the driver was in contact with responding officers by cell phone, but the emergency personnel had a hard time locating her because of the location of the 2003 Suzuki car she was driving.

The 8:10 a.m. crash was investigated by Tpr. Amye Johnson of the Highway Patrol, assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Ava Rural Fire Department.
