Lady Bears Fall To Forsyth, Houston In Volleyball Action

The Ava Lady Bears dropped a volleyball match to Forsyth in straight sets Thursday, Sept. 13, on the home court.

The Panthers slipped by Ava by a slim 25-21 margin in Game 1, then spread the margin only slightly more in Game 2, 25-19.

Cori Dry was 11-for-11 serving with two aces, was 4-for-5 hitting with two kills, and was 4-for-6 on digs.

Brittany Walker was 6-for-7 serving and was 3-for-3 on assists.

Courtney Mings was 8-for-9 hitting with four kills and Makenzie Watterson had one ace serve and two kills.

Destiny Sparnicht had five tips for Ava.

The Ava junior varsity lost to Forsyth by identical scores to the varsity, 21-25, 19-25.

Hunter Shelton was 11-for-11 serving and 4-for-7 hitting. Brandee Cutbirth was 11-of-13 serving with three aces, and Jessie Davis was 9-for-9 with four aces.

Ava varsity played in the Cabool Tournament on Saturday and hosted Houston in SCA action here Tuesday night.

Houston came on strong and never let up, beating the Lady Bears in straight sets, 25-9, 25-11.

Senior Brittany Walker served 6-for-6 and led a brief rally in game 2 for Ava. Cori Dry was 4-for-4 serving and Alena Stokes was 3-for-3.

Stokes was also 6-for-7 hitting, as was Dry. Courtney Mings was 16-for-16 on assists and 4-for-4 hitting. Dry and Stokes had one kill each for Ava.

The Ava JV VolleyBears took Houston to three games, but lost the match 25-19, 15-25, 18-25.

Hunter Shelton was 14-of-15 serving, 9-for-11 passing and 14-for-16 hitting.

Bailey Loge was 7-for-7 serving, Brandee Cutbirth was 7-for-8 at the serving line, and Caley Wallace was 9-for-10 serving, 5-of-5 passing and 2-for-3 hitting.

Ava will host Salem in SCA action tonight (Thursday). Fans should note that there will be no freshman match as previously scheduled, so the action will begin with the JV games at 6 o’clock.
