Storm Knocks Out Power For Many

Ava Electric Dept. employee Toby Sheppard works on a power line in south Ava last Saturday night to restore power following the thunderstorm that passed through the area. Ava’s official rainfall was less than 1.5 inches, although amounts varied throughout the area. A strong wind gust that preceded the storm brought down a tree and power line on South Jefferson Street, which resulted in the south part of town being out of power for about three hours. White River Electric Cooperative reported more than 3,000 customers were without power after midnight Sunday morning because of the storm that made a path across southwest Missouri.
