Six From Ava Hurt in Wreck East of Springfield
Three teenagers were riding in this pickup when it overturned west of Ava on a county road Tuesday afternoon. All three suffered only minor injuries although no one was wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol. Six people from Ava were taken to a Springfield hospital Saturday, all with minor injuries, following a wreck east of Springfield.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at 4:59 p.m., three miles east of Springfield on Greene County Route D.
According to the report, Mandy J. Wilber, 30, of Ava, was driving a 2001 Toyota Sequoia east, and ran into the rear of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, also traveling east, driven by April L. Kastning, 34, of Seymour.
The Kastning vehicle was slowing, waiting for a vehicle to turn left, when her vehicle was rear-ended.
Taken to Cox South Hospital by ambulance were the driver, Mandy Wilber; and occupants in her vehicle, Luke A. Wilber, 1, Zackary K. Wilber, 2, Bryson C. Wilber, 6, Jaden M. Wilber, 7, and Jarom D. Wilber, 9.
All were wearing safety devices, the report said.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, but Kastning was apparently not injured, according to the report released by Troop D, Missouri Highway Patrol, Springfield.

The Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Ford pickup driven by Dakota L. Cain, 16, of Seymour, went out of control in a curve on a gravel road and overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
The wreck happened at 12:45 p.m. on County Road 523, five to six miles west of Ava.
Both the driver and one occupant, Daniel L. Stafford, 15, of Ava, refused treatment at the scene. A third occupant in the truck, Tylor B. Emerick, 16, of Ava, was taken to Cox Hospital in Springfield by private vehicle.
Cpl. Brian Thompson, who investigated the accident for the Highway Patrol, indicated none of the three was wearing a seat belt.
