Booster Club Sports Scrimmage Event Will Be Held This Friday
Another fall sports season will be starting soon at Ava High School.
In anticipation of the fall activities, the Ava Bear Booster Club will be hosting its kick-off event, the annual fall scrimmage, this Friday, Aug. 10.
Sports fans will be able to see all the teams in action, along with the cheer squads and the marching band. At the same time, the Booster Club will be accepting memberships for the coming school year.
The football, volleyball, softball and cross country teams will be wrapping up their first full week of practice as they come together on Friday afternoon for the annual scrimmages.
The day will begin at the high school gym at 4:30 where the volleyball team will go through a workout and team members will be introduced.
From there, the action will move to the softball field where the cross country team will be introduced, followed by a scrimmage by the softball team and introduction of those players.
The Ava Pride Marching Band will perform at the football field at 6:45, with cheer and dance teams performing at 7 o’clock. The football scrimmage will begin at about 7:15 p.m.
Again this year the Booster Club will have punch cards available at the volleyball scrimmage for fans to pick up. As you move from one location to the next, have that card punched.
After the cards are punched at all three locations, they will be turned in at the football field for drawings, with valuable prizes to be given away.
At all locations, Booster Club members will be on hand to accept your family membership in the Booster Club and to also take orders for Bear Wear for the coming fall seasons.
The Ava Football Bears will travel to Mtn. Grove on Friday, Aug. 17, for the annual Jamboree. At the Jamboree the teams will compete with other neighboring teams in a controlled scrimmage atmosphere. After a couple of weeks of practice at home, coaches appreciate the opportunity to see how their teams perform against other people.
Ava’s first football game will be Friday, Aug. 24, at home against the Aurora Houn’ Dawgs.
The girls’ softball season will open on Aug. 22 with SCA action at Mtn.View-Liberty. The following day the girls will play at Forsyth, with the first home game scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27, with Norwood.
The volleyball squad will also open on the road at Fordland on Aug. 27. The Lady VolleyBears will be at home the following night, Aug. 28, as they host Springfield Catholic.
The cross country team will travel to Strafford to open their season on Saturday, Sept. 1.
The cross country squad only hosts one home meet during the season. That comes on Monday, Oct. 22, this year, just prior to the district meet.
Ava Middle School will open the football season at Liberty on Aug. 30 and the middle school volleyball teams will play Sept. 6 and West Plains.
Football and volleyball action is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
