The Ava men’s 4×800-meter relay team of sophomore Jordan Dirmerskey, junior Dakota Renner, senior Chase Dixon and junior Kyle Clinkingbeard, ran a blazing time of 8:03.97 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City on Friday, May 26.
While this time was only good enough to place the foursome sixth in the state meet, their time blasted the school record by nearly a full 10 seconds.
The previous record that has stood for the last 23 years was set in 1989 by Halle Adams, Scott Silvey, Scott Sallee, and John Akers at 8:13.94.
Previously the team’s best time was attained at the state sectional at 8:15.76.
The four runners combined times of: Dirmerskey 2:04.22; Renner, 2:01.70; Dixon 2:01.74; and Clinkingbeard 1:56.31 to equal the record-setting time.
Clinkingbeard also ran the 400-meter dash in the state meet and finished 12th overall.
His time of 51.71 on Friday did not qualify for the finals on Saturday.
Cardinal Ritter High School of St. Louis won the 4×800 with a time of 8:01.00.
