Howard Hillard Garland, 93

Howard Hillard Garland, 93 years, passed to heaven on May 18, 2012 at Christian Healthcare in Republic, Mo.
Howard was born Oct. 29, 1918 in Jasper, Ark., to Tillman Jackson and Nellie (Pearson) Garland.
Howard lived most of his life in Douglas County, Mo., in the Dogwood community. He was a retired truck driver for Kraft Foods and also a farmer.
In 1936 Howard and Veda Brown were united in marriage in Squires, Mo., and to this union five children were born. He was a Christian and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Southern Baptist Church at Dogwood. He enjoyed foxhunting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Basil Garland; two daughters, Gaytha Garland and Patricia Garland; nine sisters, Elva Brown, Iris Frye, Kate Thompson, Mabel Dixon, Dorothy Letsinger, Fannie Drake, Bonnie Drake, Edna Sullivan and Jean Hunter.
Howard is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Joleen and John King, Republic, Mo., Gwen and Charles Coil, Rochelle, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Teresa, Rick, Cecilia, Melinda, Debbie, Missy, Tina and Greg; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Cloda Hendrickson, Bolivar, Mo.; a special nephew, Leonard Garland, Hartville, Mo.; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Howard were Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo., with burial in the Dogwood Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday from 1:30 to service time in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Dogwood Cemetery.
