Haltom Represents Ava High School At State Golf Meet
Ava High School freshman Tristan Haltom was the lone qualifier from his team for the state golf tournament held Monday and Tuesday at Twin Oaks Country Club, Springfield.
Haltom shot an 80 on the first day of play, but slid back to a 91 on the second day for a total of 171. The cut-off for all-state honors was 160.
Haltom finished 45th out of 90 golfers in his division.
Coach Nathan Houk said Haltom gained valuable experience during his freshman year of golf, which will help him over the next few years.
Whitfield High School was the top in team competition with a total score of 622. Lutheran High School, St. Peters, was second at 648, with Mt. Vernon coming in third with 650.
Low individual was Mitchell Rutledge, of Whitfield, with a 141, followed by David Abolt, of Cuba, at 147, and Justin Wrozier of St. Peters Lutheran at 149.
