Bradleyville Scholarship Walk/Run Set for May 5

Ned Reynolds to Emcee; Lennon Brothers and Gail to Sing National Anthem

Just like the world-famous Kentucky Derby, the Bradleyville Scholarship Walk/Run takes place the first Saturday in May (May 5 this year), as it has for the past sixteen years. Thanks to the generous support of the community, hundreds of Bradleyville kids have attended college with the help of a $1,000 scholarship from this program for every year he or she remains in school, even through graduate school.

The 5k run and one-mile walk begin at the Southern Construction Shop on Brownbranch Hill five miles east of Bradleyville off Highway 76 at 9 a.m. Hundreds of walkers and runners, ranging from kindergarten to senior citizens, will take part.

Some of the faster ones in the younger category will be competing for the cash prizes – $500 each to the overall female and male winners, $250 for second and $125 for third.

The over-40 age group will win $250 for first, $125 for second and $65 for third. Generous donors have provided more than $275,000 to help Bradleyville kids over the past 15 years, and the number going on to college has increased markedly. Anonymous donors pay all prize money; nothing comes from the scholarship fund.

KY3 sportscaster Ned Reynolds will emcee the race and award checks, trophies and ribbons. The Lennon Brothers and Gail will sing the National Anthem and participate in the event. Free soft drinks, bottled water and hot dogs will be served.

Dot and Leon Combs invite everyone to their home at the Beaver Creek Elk & Cattle Ranch for dessert, coffee and soft drinks after the event.

If you haven’t registered in advance, please be at the site no later than 8:30 a.m. For more information call the school, 417-796-2288, or register online at
