Squires Man Dies From Injuries of April 12 Wreck

A Squires man has died from injuries suffered in a wreck south of Squires on April 12.

Jesse L. (Leroy) Dry, 84, died Sunday in a Springfield hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava.

Dry was driving one of three cars involved in the wreck at the intersection of Highway 5 and Route N, one mile south of Squires in Douglas County.

In an article appearing in last week’s Douglas County Herald, the Highway Patrol said Dry, was attempting to make a U-turn from Route N onto Highway 5 when his 1984 Chevrolet was hit by a 2000 Ford Windstar driven south on Highway 5 by Randie J. Schmucker, 63, of Wasola. Schmucker’s vehicle then hit a third vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Johnna L. Kronk, 46, of Squires.

Dry was taken to Cox South Hospital by Cox Ambulance following the 9:40 a.m. wreck.

A passenger in the Schmucker vehicle, Delena M. Christy, 87, of Wasola, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to Cox South by a Cox Ambulance, it was reported last week.
