Engelhardt, Norman Take Positions on City Council

The Ava Board of Aldermen convened for their regular meeting Tuesday evening, and to administer the oath of office to candidates Ric Engelhardt and David Norman, who were elected to serve as councilmen representing the east and west ward, respectively.

Council members also adopted an ordinance accepting the election and ballot counts, as follows:  east ward candidates, Ric Engelhardt, 45 votes and challenger Bonnie Evans, 26;  and David Norman, west ward, 29 votes.

During the session, Alderman Burrely Loftin was elected city council president.

The board of aldermen selected Marilyn Alms to serve as city clerk, and approved the following office appointments as requested by Mayor Eddie Maggard: Larry Tyrrell, city attorney; Reggie Johnson, chief of police; Peggy Porter, treasurer; Jennifer Lakey, collector; Keith Moore, fire chief; Shannon Bryant Gamble, municipal judge.

Jamie Dry and Lane Lakey were reappointed to planning and zoning commission.

Councilmen okayed the payment of bills and adjourned the meeting.

Councilmen present were Ric Engelhardt, Burrely Loftin, Billy Long, and David Norman.

The aldermen will reconvene on Tuesday, April 24, 5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.  Meetings are open to the public.
