Engelhardt Retains Council Seat In Only Contested Race Tuesday

With only one contested race in the county for Tuesday’s municipal and school elections, the voter turnout was exceptionally low.
In the East Ward of the City of Ava, incumbent council member Ric Engelhardt held off challenger Bonnie Evans to keep his seat at the council table. Engelhardt received 48 votes to Evans’ 29.
David Norman was unopposed for the alderman position in the West Ward of the city. He will replace Judy Lovan who did not seek reelection.
In the Ava R-1 School District, incumbent board members Johnny Burkdoll and Pat Henry were the only candidates to file and subsequently were retained without an election.
In the Skyline R-2 District, Wes Woods was the only candidate on the ballot, with two positions to be filled. Elected by write-in vote to fill the other board seat was Brian Sherrill.
In the Plainview R-8 School District, two board members were being elected to regular three-year terms and one to complete an unexpired one-year term. With only the necessary number of candidates filed to fill those positions no election was required.
Taking seats on the school board at Plainview are Lacy Roberts and Amanda LeVelle, for three-year terms, and Dustin Mitchell, for a one-year term.
Returned to the Ava Area Ambulance District Board without an election this spring are Jim Stafford and Daryel Armour.
