Crash at Jct. 5 & Y Sends One to Hospital

A crash at the intersection of Highways 5 and Y in Ava last Wednesday resulted in one driver going to the hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the car shown at right, Herman B. Prock, had to be extricated by Ava Fire and Rescue before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.

An Ava man was taken to the hospital last Wednesday morning following a crash at the intersection of Highways 5 and Y in Ava.
Ava Police said Herman B. Prock, 76, of Ava, was southbound on Highway 5 in a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina and was hit in the side by a westbound pickup driven by Willard L. Henry, 40, of Ava.
The investigating officer, Policeman Brenda Dinwiddie, reported Henry stopped his 1994 Chevrolet pickup at the stop sign on NW 3rd Ave., then drove into the side of the Prock car.
The Prock car then ran off the road and came to rest in the ditch on the west side of Highway 5.
Prock had to be extricated from the wrecked vehicle by Ava Fire and Rescue and was taken to a Springfield hospital by Cox Ambulance.
A passenger in the Prock vehicle, Kenny Prock, was not injured.
The driver of the pickup also was not injured, and a passenger, Paris Henry, age 6, was not hurt.
The wreck occurred at 9:10 a.m. and it was raining at the time of the crash.
