Virginia Maxine Smith, 85
Virginia Maxine Smith, 85 years, passed to heaven on March 2, 2012 at Springfield, Mo., with her family by her side.
Maxine was born Feb. 24, 1927 in Bertha, Mo., to Jasper and Delphia (Driskell) Alsup.
Maxine lived most of her life in Douglas and Ozark County, Mo. On Dec. 24, 1941 Maxine and Lyle Wayne Smith were united in marriage in Ava, Mo., and to this union three children were born.
Maxine was a member of the Souder Church of Christ. She had worked as a Nurses Assistant in Ava at Chastain’s Nursing Home. She also worked in housekeeping and was a homemaker.
Maxine enjoyed cooking and loved making homemade rolls and pies for her family and friends. She adored and loved being with all her grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lyle in 2010; five brothers, Donald and Willis Alsup, Lyle Upshaw, twin infant brothers, Lloyd and Floyd Upshaw.
Maxine is survived by three children and their spouses, Carl and Vena Smith, Ava, Mo., Wanda and Ival Rowe, Springfield, Mo., and Hearld “Junior” and Cindy Smith, Ava, Mo.; five grandchildren, June Smith, Juanita Wilkerson, Kim Dixon, Kristi Constantine and Scotty Smith; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Alsup, Davenport, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Maxine were Tuesday, March 6, at 4 p.m. at the Souder Cemetery, Wasola, Mo., with a visitation Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo.
Officiating was E.J. Hampton.
