Seminar to Focus on Bovine Reproduction & Artificial Insemination

A workshop series dealing with bovine reproduction and artificial insemination will be held at the Laclede Electric building north of Hartville on March 12 and 13.  The classes will assist beef and dairy producers in learning about the anatomy and physiology of reproduction in the cow.

Other topics include getting started in artificial insemination, using estrus synchronization and timed breeding, sire selection and understanding and using EPDs.  The sessions will begin each evening at 6:30 pm.

The workshops will be followed in April by on-farm opportunities for producers to see first-hand the methodology of estrus synchronization, heat detection, artificial insemination and pregnancy determination.

Instructors for the sessions will be Logan Wallace, MU Extension Livestock Specialist and Ted Probert, MU Extension Dairy Specialist.  On-farm sessions will be held at the Denis Turner farm west of Hartville.

Anyone interested in learning more about bovine reproduction and/or exploring the possibilities of utilizing artificial insemination and timed breeding in their herd is welcome to attend.  To pre-register please contact the Wright County Extension office at 417-741-6134 or email probertt@missouri.edu. Extension programs are open to all.
