Work On Norfork Dam To Close Arkansas Bridge
MOUNTAIN HOME-Upcoming work on Norfork Dam will require the Arkansas Highway 177 bridge across the dam to be closed from 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17.
The closure has been coordinated with local emergency and law enforcement agencies. Officials from the Army Corps of Engineers Mountain Home Project Office said they regret any inconvenience this may cause. They ask motorists to drive slowly on the alternate routes because some drivers may not be familiar with the roads. Also, they urge motorists to plan around the closings and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
During the work, crews will use a crane atop the bridge to install portions of a siphon pipe through the dam. The siphon pipe is part of the White River Minimum Flow Project which will allow a steady release of cold water flowing from Norfork Dam for downstream trout when hydropower is not being generated.
