Roxie Faye Swearengin, 95

Roxie Faye “Johns” Cook Swearengin was born on Sept. 27, 1916 to Ora Lee and Muriel Blanch (Daniels) Johns near Seymour, Mo. She departed this life on Jan. 27, 2012 at St. John’s hospital at the age of 95 years and 4 months.

On Aug. 21, 1934 Roxie married John Cook. To this union five sons and four daughters were born. John passed away on Aug. 18, 1987.
Roxie is survived by her sons Fred Cook and wife, Awilda, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Earl Cook and wife, Bettie, of Niangua, Earnie Cook and wife, Helen, Danny Cook and wife, Bonnie, and Kenneth Cook, all of Mansfield; three daughters, Dorothy Cole and husband, Terry, of Rogersville, Frances Davis and husband, Ralph, Kathleen Threw and husband, David, all of Seymour; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Everett Johns, of Hollister, Calif., and Edward Johns and wife, Virginia, of Seymour; and one sister, June Hargus.
On her 75th birthday, Sept. 27, 1991, she married Floyd Swearengin who preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1997. She is also survived by five stepdaughters, Judith Todd, Bruner, Lucille Smith and husband, Hearvy, of Fordland, Linda Boatman and Peggy Greene, of Seymour, and Eva Winslow and husband Wesley, of Oldfield.
She was preceded in death also by one daughter, Hazel Hughitt, three brothers, Floyd, Ivan, and Austin Johns, and one stepdaughter, Beverley Swearengin.
She was saved on July 4, 1932 at the age of 16 at her Grandpa Daniels home under an old apple tree and was baptized in Findley Creek by her Uncle Clarus Daniels. She attended the Assembly of God Church and was a godly woman and prayer warrior. She loved making quilts, gardening and cooking for her family. She was a loving wife mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and caring neighbor and friend and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
