Emerson Votes For Congressional Pay Freeze

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) this evening voted in favor of a measure to prohibit a pay increase for members of Congress.  Emerson has consistently and repeatedly voted against such pay increases in the past.

“Members of Congress ought to be focused on doing their jobs and not on getting a pay raise.  For Americans all over this country, they need to know that their elected officials are doing everything possible to create a positive environment for economic growth and opportunity,” Emerson said.

“Our government needs to learn to do more with less, and that responsibility extends to the legislative branch as well.  My office budget was cut by five percent last year, and another six percent this year.  And the Financial Services appropriations bill I authored ultimately cut that portion of government by 11 percent over a two-year period.”

The measure, HR 3835, won approval by a wide margin in a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.
