Douglas County, Missouri Voters Support Rick Santorum in Presidential Primary

Although only about 11 percent of the registered voters of Douglas County went to the polls on Tuesday, those who did vote overwhelmingly supported Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination for President.

Across the state of Missouri the vote was about the same. In Douglas County Santorum received almost 54 percent of the votes; in Missouri he received 55 percent.

Many voters did not bother to vote because the election had been reported as meaningless, so far as the actual nomination process is concerned. However, the vote in Missouri, as well as in Colorado and Montana, showed that Mitt Romney may not be as highly favored among Republicans as has been indicated on the East Coast.

The official party nominees will come out of party caucuses which begin at the county level in March. It was reported last week that only those who voted in the Presidential Primary could participate in those caucuses. That information was not totally accurate. To be a delegate one must have voted in the primary, but one must only be registered to vote to participate in the caucus.

Following is the tally of Douglas County votes from Tuesday’s election.
