NARFE Chapter Meets At Sonshine Café; Next Meeting is Jan. 18
Ava Chapter #2283 National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) met at Sonshine Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16 and had a good lunch together. The meeting was called to order by giving Pledge of Allegiance to our U.S. Flag.
Darrell Cope led in prayer.
President Danny gave a Senior Moment titled “Another Deer Season Is Upon Us” for a good laugh.
Minutes of previous minutes were read and approved.
Treasurer, Norma, read the financial report with $773.72 in the treasury. She reported mailing $91 to the Alzheimer Fund, leaving a balance of $682.72. This report was voted to be accepted as read and approved.
Ten members attended the joint meeting with West Plains Chapter on Oct. 25. Those enjoying the beautiful color of the leaves and trip to Rockbridge were: Danny and Carla Lawler, Jim and Offie Walker, Darrell and Wanda Cope, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Ross, Robert and Greta Cope.
State President Ron Peters and Morris Ridge, 8th District Officer, gave reports and information on budget deficit reductions, wanting the secretary to do all mail by e-mail online and do direct deposit and banking online.
There is an Area Disaster Fund. If you are a member in good standing with NARFE, you may fill out a form for a $500 grant. Secretary Wanda said she would be happy to resign as she did not have a computer. Treasurer Norma stated she did not do online banking and she thought we should be supporting the Postal Service.
The state meeting will be held April 19-22 at Sheraton West Port Lake Side, St. Louis, Mo. It was asked if anyone would be interested in attending as delegate from Chapter 2283. Fee for registration will be $50 per delegate. The local chapter has 28 members since life member Laura Findley was lost in a car accident Sept. 24, 2011 near Mtn. Grove.
The chapter is qualified for two delegates. Danny and Carla were elected as delegates. They will have three nights motel, mileage, food on their own expense. Darrell Cope made a motion to pay $100 per delegate, making the total $200. The motion carried.
Pres. Danny copied off the Internet that the national membership had dropped 190 members last quarter.
The rotation of meetings was voted to come back to Sonshine restaurant in Ava for the Jan. 18 meeting, 11:30 a.m. All members, prospective members and spouses are urged to attend.
It is now time for the annual election of officers for 2012.
Danny was elected president and Robert Cope vice president by acclamation
Wanda Cope was elected secretary by acclamation, and also to serve as newspaper reporter. Danny nominated Norma Robertson as treasurer and also Alzheimer’s chair. She was elected by acclamation. Carla Lawler was appointed as Legislative Chair.
The meeting was adjourned until Jan. 18 at Sonshine Café, at 11:30 a.m.
