Dale W. Lakey, 77

Dale Wilford Lakey, age 77, father of five children, sawmiller, logger, fisherman, trapshooter, turkey hunter and frequent fish fryer, passed away of natural causes Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, in Golden Years Care Center of Harrisonville, Mo.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Cannon) Lakey of 32 years, mother and father, Simon and Lillie (Elliott) Lakey as well as one brother, Howard Otto Lakey of Macon, Mo., and one sister, Bonnie Jean (Lakey) Starks of Dittmer, Mo.

He is survived by one sister, Fretta Mae (Lakey) Luchetta of Golden, Colo.; and all five of his children:  Marsha (Lakey) Sanford of Sanger, Texas, Melody (Lakey) Folsom of Harrisonville, Mo., (Simon) Abe Lakey of Climax Springs, Mo., Lillie (Lakey) Ash of Climax Springs, Mo., and Donna (Lakey) Walter of Kansas City, Mo.; and grandchildren Ashley Sanford, Jake Sanford, Shane Sanford, Brooklynn Dallas Lakey, Clint Lakey, Evan Walter, Aidan Walter and Jamison Walter.

Dale had a number of immediate family members, cousins, aunts, uncles, a host of nieces and nephews, and friends who will miss him not only for his incredible fish frying ability, but also for the way he loved reaching out to them through family reunions and those famous, always delicious, and often impromptu “fish fries.”

Services for Dale will be Friday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel in Ava, Mo., with Pastor Reg Kelly officiating. A visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.
