Jul 3, 2008

A series of burglaries in the city has the Ava Police Department asking for help from the public. In addition, one business owner is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the vandals.

Russell Cellular on West Highway 14 (NW 12th Ave.) has been burglarized twice in the past week, once on June 27 and again over the weekend. The second burglary was discovered Monday morning, June 30.

Sgt. Denny Hall, of the Ava Police Dept., said the burglars also attempted to break into the Headquarters barbershop next door to Russell Cellular.

A burglary at Dani-n-K Toning & Gifts on NW 4th Ave., was also discovered at 8 a.m. Monday morning. Further investigation revealed that the intruders had also entered the adjoining Wharton Appliance Store.

Dani-n-K Toning is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for property damage and theft of money, tools, motors, computer software, a camera and other items.

Hannaford Electric also reported the second theft of wire from its business on N. Jefferson St. on Monday. Sgt. Hall said wire had previously been stolen from the same location on June 8.

The Ava Police Dept. is asking for any information members of the public may have about these burglaries. If you have information to share, please call the Ava Police Dept. at 417-683-2931.
