Government offices and many businesses will be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. City, county, state and federal offices will close for the holiday. In the city, residents are reminded that there will be no trash service on Friday. Customers normally served on Friday will have their trash picked up on Thursday this week. There will also be no rural mail delivery on Friday, nor will there be window service at the post office. The lobby will be open, however, allowing access to lockboxes at the Ava Post Office. The Douglas County Public Library has announced it will be closed on Friday for Independence Day.
