A 33-year-old Ava man is recovering from a gunshot to the stomach suffered in an altercation last Thursday morning south of Ava. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Dustin Huff was shot with a .45 caliber firearm at a residence on Glade Top Trail Road (CR 409) at about 9 a.m. Sheriff Gary Koop said last week that Huff was shot as he and a 30-year-old female were fighting over the gun. Information released by the Sheriff’s Office stated that three individuals were involved in the incident. No other names have been released and no charges have been filed at this time. Deputy Vernon Johnson said the investigation is ongoing. Huff was transported to a Springfield hospital by air ambulance and was treated for what was considered life-threatening injuries. Johnson said Wednesday afternoon that Huff was scheduled to be released from the hospital, but he did not know if he had, in fact, been released.
