City Approves Budget,

Jun 12, 2008

The Ava Board of Aldermen adopted an amendment to the 2008 budget Tuesday evening, making adjustments to the general fund. The amendment corrected revenue and expenditure figures under the MoDOT grant category, changing numbers to reflect recent expenditures associated with the airport improvement project and the City of Ava sidewalk project. Council also adopted budget figures for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008.

A petition for a zoning variance was okayed for Fleetwood Enterprises, Scott and Sandra Fleetwood, developers of Sundown Ridge East Subdivision. The variance allows the developer to adjust front-yard residential set-backs from 35 ft. to 25 ft., for Lots 1 through 8 of the development. According to the request, granting the 25 ft. set-back will help maintain continuity of the lots within the development, and maintain property values.

Council members gave permission for Mayor Leon Harris to renew a lease agreement with the Douglas County Fair Board for the use of the fairground property west of Ava. The contract gives the fair board rights to the property for one year.

The Mayor was also given authority to execute an agreement with Century Bank of the Ozarks, and renew the financing on a trash truck bought last year. The truck, a 2007 Sterling Acterra, was purchased for the city sanitation department, and cost approximately $99,000. Council gave Harris the okay to renew the one-year note on the truck, citing an outstanding balance of $50,393.56 and interest rate of 5.75 percent.

Gary Moffett was approved as a new appointee to the planning and zoning commission. Moffett fills the slot vacated by Michelle Shortt.

Mayor Harris reported city employees have disposed of 391 loads of brush and tree stumps.

The municipal court docket was approved for April - May 2008, and accounts payable were approved for payment.
Council members present were Ric Engelhardt, Burrely Loftin, Judy Lovan and David Norman.

The next city council meeting is Tuesday, June 24, 6:30 p.m. at Ava City Hall.
