Next Monday, May 26, will be observed as Memorial Day throughout the country, and government offices and many businesses will be closed. Douglas County American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993 will conduct the traditional Memorial Day ceremony at the Ava Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday. Guest speaker this year will be Elmo Wright. The ceremony will be held near the Veterans Memorial on the west side of the cemetery. City, county, state and federal offices will close for the holiday, which means there will be no rural mail delivery. There will also be no window service at the Ava Post Office. The Douglas County Public Library has announced it will be closed on Monday, in observance of Memorial Day.
