Damage Assessments

Apr 10, 2008

Douglas County Commissioners released another update this week concerning flood damage to county roads.

As of April 7, county commissioners had met with SEMA/FEMA and discussed the damage to county roads and bridges. Last week, SEMA/FEMA officials, along with personnel from the local Emergency Management went out into the county and traveled some of the roads to do damage assessments.

State and federal Emergency Management personnel were to be back in the county sometime this week to continue damage assessments to roads and bridges, as well as low-water crossings.

Butch Linder, presiding commissioner; along with District 1 Commissioner Richard Mitchell and District 2 Commissioner Danny Dry, released a statement this week, asking for the public's continued patience during the ongoing assessment process, and continued repair work on the roads.

"Our concern is getting the roads passable for emergency traffic and in doing this the road crews are taking pictures and documenting the damage," the commissioners said. This documentation is being brought back to the EMA office. As soon as the public assistance is completed, work will begin on project worksheets, and then the county can begin repairing the roads to bring them back as they were before the flooding.

The statement released early this week said, "With the forecast for the rest of the week calling for more rains, we are working as hard as we can. We will continue to update you with the progress working with SEMA/FEMA in getting the damage assessed."
