Filing Closes For
County commissioner, and more specifically the District 2 commissioner position, seems to be the most popular job in the county, as indicated by the upcoming primary election ballot.
Filing closed on Tuesday for the 2008 county election, with all incumbents seeking re-election in the August Republican primary. No Democrats filed for the nomination in Douglas County.
The office of District 2 County Commissioner attracted the most attention with five candidates in the running, including incumbent Danny Dry. Dry will be challenged by Bob Berry, Jerry L. Carr, Mike Prock and Boyd Hall.
District 1 County Commissioner Richard Mitchell is a candidate for re-election, along with challengers Dwayne Nash and Clyde Irby.
Sheriff Gary Koop will seek re-election and is being challenged by Jeffrey H. Cooper and Chris Degase. Assessor Danny Gray will face Gerald (Jerry) Kyle in the Republican primary.
Public Administrator Linda Coonts and Coroner Mark Pearson are unopposed for re-election in 2008.
Three candidates have announced for a new position to be filled in the 2008 election. The office of Recorder of Deeds will be separated from that of Circuit Clerk on Jan., 1, 2009, with the new recorder to be elected in the November general election.
Seeking election to the new position, which will be decided in the Republican primary in August, are Tina Boyd, Holly Garner and Drevis Burke.
