County Concentrates On Getting Roads
The Douglas County Commission issued a statement to the public this week, urging residents to please be patient as county road crews are still in an emergency mode, just getting roads open from the recent flooding.
“Due to the flooding event of March 17, our road crews, along with District 1 and 2 Commissioners, are working together to get the roads open,” the statement said. “They are doing emergency work to get the roads open,” that notice emphasized.
County commissioners pointed out that some roads are still impassable due to high water, and repairs will take several months. Crews are concentrating on just getting roads open at this time, before they begin making repairs to roads that are damaged, but passable.
Rainfall totals from the some 36 hours of non-stop rainfall ranged from 6 to 12 inches during the period. For that reason, it is understandable that all county roads are in bad shape. But some are worse than others.
The county is waiting for state and federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA and SEMA) to set up a meeting to start working on project worksheets that will help the county in getting the roads fixed and open. In the meantime, the county will be fixing roads while awaiting SEMA/ FEMA approval.
The notice was issued by Presiding Commissioner Butch Linder, District 1 Commissioner Richard Mitchell, and District 2 Commissioner Danny Dry.
