Ballots cast for the 2008 University of Missouri Douglas County Extension Council public election, have been tallied. Douglas County's extension council election ended Feb. 15, at 4:30 p.m. Valid ballots handed in or sent in by mail totaled 52. The top 2008 election winners will be sworn into office during Extension's annual meeting March 14, at 7 p.m. at the Ava Middle School Cafeteria. Persons elected to the Extension Council are: District I, Annette Stillings; District II, Andy Underwood, Norma Stillings and Jeff Barry; District III, Martha Driskell; District IV, Carl Beason; District V, Heather Elijah. Every county in Missouri has a publicly-elected Extension Council. County Extension Councils (mandated by state statutes) are the governing body for local educational opportunities provided by University of Missouri Extension. Council members work with Extension faculty in making decisions concerning Extension programs, personnel, council elections and the local Extension budget.
