Candidates began filing early for the 2008 primary election which will be held on Aug. 5. Tuesday was the first day candidates could announce, and several were ready to fill out forms with County Clerk Karry Davis at the courthouse. All those filed at this time are Republicans. Filing for re-election on Tuesday were District 1 County Commissioner Richard Mitchell and District 2 Commissioner Danny Dry, along with Sheriff Gary Koop, Public Administrator Linda Coonts, and Assessor Danny Gray. Also filed for District 2 commissioner are Bob Berry and Jerry Carr. Filing on Tuesday to oppose Sheriff Koop is Jeffrey H. Cooper. Three candidates have filed for the new position of County Recorder which will be separated from the circuit clerk position in 2009. Those candidates include Tina Boyd, Holly Garner and Drevis Burke. Candidates may continue filing through March 25.
