Ava Summer School Begins

May 29, 2008

Ava Summer School begins next Monday, June 2, and will run through June 27, with classes Monday through Friday each week.

Summer School follows a different format and time schedule than the normal school year, and parents are asked to make note of these schedules.

Limited bus service will be provided, and parents will need to make provisions for these schedules and routes, as well.

Summer School Bus Routes

• Wasola Route – Judy McFarlin; Bus #03-5
Leaves Oak Grove Church at 7:30 a.m.; enters town on South Jefferson Street; turns east on SE 6th Ave (by old 2-story Lethco house); turns north on SE 5th St., crosses Hwy. 14 by Casey's and continues to school.

• Goodhope Route – David Dooms; Bus #08-7
Leaves Jenkins Store (junction of Hwys. O and T) at 7:30 a.m.; enters town on Hwy. Y by the city pool and follows Route Y to school.

• Sweden Route – Becky Scrivner; Bus #89-2.
Leaves Sweden Store at 7:30 a.m.; enters town on Hwy. 14; turns north on NE 5th St. by Casey's and continues to school.

• Dogwood Route – Roger Sanders; Bus #95-3.
Leaves Dogwood Store at 7:25 a.m.; enters town on N. Jefferson St. by McDonald's and continues to school.
• North Highway 5 Route - Dwayne Nash; Bus #08-8.
This route will begin on a trial basis. If an adequate number of students does not ride, it will be discontinued after one week.

Leaves Gentry Roadside Park at 7:30 a.m.; travels south on Hwy. 5 to East Hwy. 76. East on Hwy. 76 to the Highway Church of the Nazarene. Turns around at the church and returns to school by way of Old Highway 5.

Summer School Schedule

Ava Middle School
Ava Summer School runs June 2-27, Monday-Friday each week. Time is 8 a.m. to 2:45 each day.

Buses will run routes on main highways only. Parents will need to bring students to the highway to meet the bus, or students will be issued parking passes if they drive.

Breakfast (7:45-8 a.m.) and lunch will be served free of charge each day. Fees (for field trips, etc.) will be "pay as you go", not to exceed $30 for the four-week session.
Late enrollments will be accepted, but class choices could be limited and may be determined by the principal's office.

Ava Elementary
Summer school will be held in a four-week session, June 2-27, 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. each day. Students are encouraged to attend all four weeks, but it is not required.

Buses will run routes as listed above. Buses will stay on the Highway; parents will need to bring students to the highway to meet the bus.

Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge each day.
Sections are divided into grade levels. Students may rotate between teachers in the section they choose. Some changes may occur due to enrollment at each grade level.

Kindergarten Community is open to students who are enrolled in kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year.

There will be teachers available to tutor students during Summer School. Students with the highest need (such as possible retention) will be tutored first, but others will receive tutoring as available. Parents are asked to indicate if they would like to have their child tutored.

School age child care will be offered before and after school starting at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. A small fee will be charged for this service, as indicated below.

Before School Daily Rate:
One child $1.00
Each additional child $0.50
Minimum fee $1.00
(Regardless of check-in time)
After School Daily Rate:
One child -2:40-3:00 p.m. $1.00
One child – 2:40-3:30 p.m. $1.50
One child – 2:40-4:00 p.m. $2.00
One child – 2:40-5:00 p.m. $2.50
One child – 2:40-5:30 p.m. $3.00
Each additional child $1.00
