Lady Bears End Track Season

The Ava Lady Bears track team ended their season at the Class 3 District 5 meet at Marshfield on Saturday, May 10.
Ten Lady Bears participated in the 14-school district. Three girls qualified for finals in individual events.

Brittany Page threw a personal best in the discus with an 80'0" toss in the finals and placed seventh.

Brandy Graham, despite a knee injury, qualified in the open 100-meter dash and placed eighth in the finals.

Katherine Moran made it to the final round of the long jump, jumping a personal best of 14'7."

The 4x800-meter relay team of Stephanie Maggard, Alyssa Moore, Nikki Rieken and Tina Epps ran an 11:32 to finish in sixth place; and the 4x200 team of Cheyanne Russ, Kayley Watson, Kayla Marrs and Rieken ran a time of 2:01 and finished eighth.

The 4x100 team consisting of Russ, Watson, Moran and Rieken ran a time of 57.38 and finished seventh. The 4x400 team of Russ, Watson, Maggard and Rieken ran a time of 5:00 and finished eighth.

West Plains won the district championship in both the women's and men's division. The Lady Bears track team will be honored at the Spring Athletic Banquet being held tonight (Thursday) at 6:30 in the high school cafeteria.

Girls receiving all-conference laurels in the SCA include:
Samantha Gray, 2nd team in long jump; 4x800 team (Maggard, Moore, Rieken, Epps), 2nd team; and the 4x100 team (Graham, Watson, Moran, Gray), 2nd team.

Receiving honorable mention were Graham, 100m open; 4x200m relay team (Graham, Russ, Marrs, Gray); and 4x400m relay team (Maggard, Russ, Watson, Rieken).
