Ava High Envirothon

May 8, 2008

On Thursday, May 1, the Ava High School Envirothon team traveled to Osage Beach in Lake of the Ozarks to compete in the 2008 Missouri State Envirothon. The team consisted of Adrian Buff, Austin Evans, Austin Stillings, Emma Schlegel and Aaron Schlegel.

The Ava team placed fourth in the competition which consisted of 19 teams from across the state.

To reach state the team had to at least place third in the regional contest that was held in November. Envirothon is a new club at Ava High School this year and was led and coached by Jackie Carl, a science teacher at Ava High School. Despite its pretext name (Enviro) Envirothon deals more with conservation issues that would be dealt with by agencies such as MDC and NRCS than environmental issues such as global warming.
