JV Baseball Bears

May 1, 2008

The Ava Junior Varsity Bears took on the Cabool Bulldogs Monday, April 21. Trae Shelton was the starting pitcher for Ava.

The Bears put two runs on the board in the first inning as Steven Barfield and Matt Jenkins scored. The Bulldogs came back and scored two tie, but the second inning was the difference in the game as Ava plated seven runs. The Bears went on to win the game 12-2.

Shelton looked good on the mound, said Coach Jason Puryear, striking out six Cabool batters and pitching a complete game.

The Mansfield Lions came to town the following day to play a 3-inning game.

Sean Evans got the start on the mound and pitched a great game, only allowing two hits and no runs.

Ava’s bats remained hot as the Bears scored two runs in the first two innings, then added six in the third.

Coach Puryear said the Ava defense is getting more consistent, helping the pitchers out a little more.

After the Mansfield game, the Junior Varsity Bears were 9-2-1 on the year.
