JV Bears Settle
The Ava Bears junior varsity baseball team took on the Salem Tigers last Thursday night. Ethan Cobb had his first start of the year on the mound and did a good job through the first 2½ innings, allowing no runs but allowing two to reach base in the second inning.
Sean Evans came in in relief and with some timely hitting, Salem scored two runs.
The Bears got one back after Cody Conrad doubled and stole two bases for a run.
The Tigers kept the hot bat, scoring another run in the fourth inning. The Bears rallied in the fifth and final inning when Jordan Yockey came up big and knocked in Garrett Baird to make it 3-2. Kris Eubanks later scored on a passed ball to tie the game. The Bears went for the lead trying to score on a passed ball but the runner was thrown out at the plate.
Ava took the field to try and preserve the tie with Evans still on the mound. Salem loaded the bases with two out, but Evans struck out the final batter.
The Bears were pleased with the outcome, being able to battle back in the final inning to preserve the tie. Next, Ava played at Cabool on April 21.
