Ava Golf Team Playing Well
The Ava High School golf team opened its season on March 24 at the West Plains Country Club and took second place behind the host Zizzers.
The Ava team scored a 171, topped only by West Plains with a 155. Dillon Crow of West Plains was medalist with a score of 36.
Thayer took third with a 175, Alton shot a 219, and Summersville carded a 229.
Individual scores for Ava were Josh Wendler, 42; Trevor Watterson, 42; Tyler Williams, 42; Pete Leonard, 45; and Taylor Wallace, 45.
Ava played much better on the home Ava Country Club course, winning a five-team meet with a round of 153.
Wendler was medalist with a 35, followed by Watterson, 38; Wallace, 39; Leonard, 41; and Williams, 48.
Other team scores were: Mtn. Grove, 179; West Plains JV, 198; Mtn Grove JV, 213; and Ava JV, 228.
Individual scores for Ava JV were: Seth Miller, 46; Matt Irby, 56; Jarrett Linegar, 63; Derek Sherman, 63; and Dustin Matney, 64.
Ava participated in the Reeds Spring Tournament on April 3 at the Ledgestone Country Club at Branson, and tied for second place with Neosho.
Republic took first place with a 319, and Ava and Neosho recorded identical scores of 335.
Dakota Brown of Mt. Vernon won medalist honors with a 73.
Individually, Ava's Wendler placed seventh overall with a round of 78. Other Ava team members included Watterson, 85; Wallace, 86, Leonard, 86; and Williams, 88.
Rounding out the 16-team field were Reeds Spring, Bolivar, Nixa, Rogersville, Buffalo, Monett, Mt. Vernon, Branson, Aurora, Cassville, Marshfield, Stockton and Willard.
Ava played in the West Plains Zizzer Classic on Monday and placed a narrow second behind West Plains, with both finishing at 306. Dustin Harris, of West Plains, won medalist honors with a score of 71 after a one-hole playoff between Harris and Ava's Watterson.
Watterson finished fourth with a score of 74. Wendler was 5th with a 77; Williams was 6th with a 77; Leonard was 9th with a 78; and Ava's Wallace shot an 83.
Other team scores included Lebanon 331, Hillcrest 337, Central 355, Lebanon JV 358, and Parkview 412.
