Ava Lady Bears Compete At

Apr 10, 2008

The Ava Lady Bears track team competed at Mtn. View-Liberty on April 1. For the third year in a row, Liberty hosted their all relays meet in which every event was a relay, even the field events.

The Ava Ladies always look forward to this fun, early season meet.

Events include a shuttle hurdle relay with four people – two on each end, racing the length of the 100, while jumping hurdles. The Lady Bears entered two teams with the team of Katie Nelson, Melanie Lathrom, Alyssa Moore and Kayla Marrs finishing 3rd overall.

In the sprint medley, a 100, 100, 200 and 400, Ava took home the gold with a first place finish by 50 yards. The sprint medley team consisted of Brandy Graham, Samantha Gray, Nikki Reiken and Stephanie Maggard.

In the 4 x 200 relay, the team of Graham, Gray, Kristen Hastings and Kayla Marrs placed 3rd.

In the 4 x 100, Graham, Gray, Hastings and Kayley Watson took 2nd. Ava’s shot put team of Candy Price and Lindsey Armour got 3rd with their combined throws. And the Ava long jump team of Gray and Cally Marie Hicks combined to earn 2nd place medals.

Overall, The Ava Lady Bears placed 3rd, with 78 points, behind Liberty's 111 points, and Mtn. Grove with 80.
The Marshfield Invitational meet and the Salem meets were cancelled due to bad weather. The Marshfield meet has been rescheduled for April 15. Salem does not plan to reschedule.

The Lady Bears’ next meet will be at West Plains today (Thursday). The home meet at Ava will be Monday, April 14.
