American Legion Auxiliary

Mar 27, 2008

American Legion Auxiliary Girls State delegates were chosen at the regular meeting of the Auxiliary on Thursday, March 13.

The candidates and their mothers were guests as the girls presented their reasons for wanting to go, and filled out forms about themselves and family, school activities and volunteerism, and employment in the community.

Billie Taber, secretary, read the information about Girls Sate and what to expect at the week-long session which will be at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg in late June. The girls also filled out applications and received the website to use to get other information.
After the girls and their mothers left, the members read and discussed the personal information. Finding it very hard to make a decision about the three young ladies, they voted to send all three, and now it is time to raise the funds.

The girls, Whitney Everett, Kiri Anderson and Krystan Yost, have been notified and were given Samsung scholarship applications.

A discussion on a fundraiser at the Legion Hall was decided upon and it will be held on April 4 and 5 and maybe also on April 7 and 8. Cash donations or sale items will also be accepted from businesses or individuals. A former sponsor has already given a large donation which is greatly appreciated.

The balance of the meeting time was taken up by regular agenda items and the meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be April 10, at 7:30 p.m. If you are a spouse, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, sister or mother of an eligible veteran, or yourself a woman veteran, you are welcome to attend.

The Auxiliary still needs the name and address of women veterans of the community. For contact call 683-5295 or 683-4885.
